You must meet the following minimum requirements: 

• Citizenship:  Must be a U.S. Citizen
• Driver’s License:  Must possess a valid Driver’s License at the time of application with the ability upon time of hire to obtain an Illinois Driver’s License.
• Age Requirement:  Must have attained their 21st birthday by the last date for filing applications (6/23/21).  Applicants must be forty (40) years old or younger at the last date for filing applications (6/23/21) and at such time as the final eligibility list is posted.
• Education:  Must have proof of High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement.
• Experience:  At minimum, applicants must possess a full-time State of Illinois Law Enforcement certification (issued by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board) and currently serve or have served within six (6) months prior to the application deadline (6/23/21) as a sworn officer for an Illinois municipality or the Illinois State Police.
• Character:  Must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character as described in State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6.
• Residence:  All police officers shall reside within the permissible residency boundaries within thirty (30) days after the completion of the probationary period. The permissible boundaries shall be within fifteen (15) miles of the intersection of Harlem and Lawrence Avenues, Village of Harwood Heights, Cook County, Illinois.  A full-time, first class patrol officer may petition the corporate authorities on an individual basis.
• Testing:  Must be able to successfully complete all phases of testing which may include a polygraph and psychological Examination.

There is a $35.00 non-refundable application fee.  Applications are NOT available at the Harwood Heights Police Department or Village Hall.
