Position Details

The Village of Skokie is accepting applications for the position of full-time Fire Prevention Specialist - Inspector/Public Educator.

Duties: 

• This position performs essential tasks related to Community Risk Reduction
• Continually reviews commercial development and new construction plans for applicable code compliance
• Inspects and reviews adequacy and effectiveness of fire protection equipment and systems in new and existing construction, ensuring life safety requirements are met
• Conducts final fire safety Certificate of Occupancy inspections
• Conducts final fire prevention system tests for newly installed systems
• Presents educational programs to Skokie residents of all ages
• Reviews architectural drawings for fire prevention system installation and recommends necessary system upgrades
• Observes underground chemical and petroleum storage tank installation and removal
• Performs other related duties as assigned 

Qualifications: 

• Current Certified Illinois Fire Inspectors Fire Prevention Officer AND National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Fire Inspector Level 1 and/or International Code Council (ICC) equivalent certifications required
• Valid Driver’s License
• Demonstrated comprehensive fire prevention experience or equivalent experience required
• College-level coursework in fire protection and code enforcement preferred
• NFPA and/or (ICC) Certified Fire Plan Examiner to include Life-safety/Fire Alarm/Sprinkler System Plan Review is beneficial
• ImageTrend Record Management System (RMS) Inspection Module knowledge preferred
• Computer generated pre-plan drawing experience desired
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills
• Must be proficient with basic office technology
