The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the City of Kankakee is now accepting applications for the position of Firefighter.
Testing is being conducted for an immediate need to hire 3 Firefighters and to establish an Eligibility List for hiring needs for multiple anticipated openings in the very near future.
Kankakee is located 60 miles south of the City of Chicago. Situated along the beautiful Kankakee River, it boasts natural beauty and outdoor adventures. There are museums, parks, race car circuits, restaurants, and plenty of more activities to enjoy in this wonderful city.
The Mission of the Kankakee Fire Department is to serve all of the people with professionalism, pride and compassion through prevention, education, and emergency response.
The Kankakee Fire Department, is an ISO Class 1 designated organization and presently consists of approximately 50 firefighters and officers who respond out of four stations working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with four pieces of front-line apparatus, three engines and one ladder truck plus two Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances and a Shift Commander.
The Fire Department is responsible for Fire Protection, advance life support emergency ambulance service, hazardous material response and tactical rescue within the City of Kankakee, plus auto aid and mutual aid responses. They also handle water emergency on the river along with a wide variety of other emergency and non-emergency responses.
