Position Details

The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the Village of Park Forest is now accepting applications for the position of: Entry Level or Lateral Hire

Certified officers are encouraged to apply and may be credited on the pay step scale based on previous experience.

The Park Forest Police Department serves the people of Park Forest, Illinois, a community of over 21,000 people in the South Suburban Chicago area. Responsible for law enforcement duties in both Cook and Will Counties, Park Forest Police Officers handle approximately 18,000 – 20,000 calls for service every year.  From its inception in 1949 with just 4 officers and a director, the Park Forest Police Department has grown to a state-of-the-art law enforcement agency with 60 employees.

The mission of the Park Forest Police Department is to protect life and property and enhance the quality of life for all citizens while enforcing the laws of the State of Illinois and ordinances of the Village of Park Forest, in accordance with Constitutional rights.

*Please Note: Entry or Lateral Candidates

You must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Citizenship:  Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
• Driver’s License:  Must possess a valid Driver’s License at the time of application with the ability to obtain an Illinois Driver’s License upon time of hire.
• Age Requirement:  Applicants must have attained their 21st birthday by the last date for filing applications (9/15/21).  Applicants must be under the age of 35 years old at the last date of filing applications (9/15/21) and at such time as the final eligibility list is posted, unless exempt by State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6., which provides in part that the age limitation does not apply to any person previously employed as a Certified (full-time) Law Enforcement Officer for a municipality in the United States.
• Education:  Must have proof of High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement.
• Testing:  Must be able to successfully complete all phases of testing.
• Residency:  At this time the Village of Park Forest does not have a residency requirement.
• P.O.W.E.R. Card:  Required at the time of application, card must be issued between the dates of 3/15/21 – 9/15/21.
