The City of DeKalb, Illinois invites candidates to apply for the position of Telecommunicator.
Applications will be accepted to establish an applicant pool for current and future vacancies.
The Telecommunicator receives emergent and non-emergent telephone inquiries and requests for Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Services within our community and fire protection district. The Communications Division is staffed 24/7 by a Communications Coordinator, 11 full-time and six part-time highly trained telecommunicators (TCs). The Telecommunicator receives, analyzes, classifies, prioritizes and responds to Police and Fire calls of an emergency and non-emergency nature, including those calls involving life-threatening situations. In 2020, the Communications Division received over 107, 000 phone calls, including over 13,214 9-1-1 calls, while dispatching 51,602 police calls and 6,469 fire/EMS calls.
Initial review of applications will begin Monday, November 8, 2021. Position will remain open until filled.
Application materials will be reviewed, and candidates selected to move forward in the process will be invited to test through the National Testing Network. Only those candidates that pass the NTN exam will be considered for an oral interview. Finalists will be subject to a pre-employment police background check. All offers will be contingent upon the successful completion of a psychological evaluation and physical examination including a drug screening.
