  Education Benefit:

  After probation all employees are eligible for free education to include post graduate degrees. After 7 completed years of service all UIC employees children are eligible for 50% tuition waivers to any State University.

  Insurance and Retirement:

  Optional Medical and Life insurance provided to all State Employees that choose to enroll at rates bargained on behalf of all State of Illinois Employees. Medical insurance provided to retired employees even upon acquisition of Medicare. Employees receive pensionable retirement through SURS. Supplemental retirement options also available.

  The UIC Police are represented by The Metropolitan Alliance of Police Chapter 381.

  The police officers have a current contract that is valid through August 31, 2028.

  The police officers receive a raise every September on the 1st.

GOAL TO REACH 100 SWORN OFFICERS

The UIC Police are State of Illinois sworn police officers that enforce state and local laws on and around the campus.

Our police officers handle a wide range of responsibilities that vary from law enforcement to building security to include arrest powers. UIC Police Officers process arrests and attend/testify to their cases in court.

In addition to regular mobile and bike patrol the UIC POLICE offer the following Full time specialty units:

• PACE (community policing)
• CALEA ACCREDIATION
• Field Training Officer
• Detective
• Joint Chicago Police / UICPD Robbery Task Force
• Technical Services Unit
• Administrative Equipment Services
• Range Instructor- department has its own 5 lane on-site firing range
• Defensive Tactics
• Evidence Technician
• CLERY Office Officer

Minimum Qualifications: 

1. At least 21 years of age upon employment.
2. High school graduation or equivalent.
3. Possession of a valid driver's license.
4. No record of conviction of a felony or misdemeanors as identified in the Illinois Police Training Act (50 ILCS 705 et seq.), or a crime involving moral turpitude Proof of Illinois residency is required within 180 days of the hire date should an offer of employment be made in this classification title.
5. Eligibility for bonding, if required by the employing institution
6. Successful completion of the Basic Law Enforcement Officers' Training course as prescribed by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training & Standards Board, if required by the employing institution. All recruit law enforcement officers who successfully complete this course after September 1, 1984 are required to successfully pass the Law Enforcement Officers' Certification Examination. (Applicants lacking such training at time of appointment will be required to complete such requirement during, and as a part of, their probationary period of employment in this class.) 

NOTE: Persons who have not successfully completed the mandated firearm training course, as approved and recognized by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training & Standards Board, must complete the course during their probationary period. Police officers are not authorized to carry a service weapon until successfully completing such training.
