Education Benefit:
After probation all employees are eligible for free education to include post graduate degrees. After 7 completed years of service all UIC employees children are eligible for 50% tuition waivers to any State University.
Insurance and Retirement:
Optional Medical and Life insurance provided to all State Employees that choose to enroll at rates bargained on behalf of all State of Illinois Employees. Medical insurance provided to retired employees even upon acquisition of Medicare. Employees receive pensionable retirement through SURS. Supplemental retirement options also available.
The UIC Police are represented by The Metropolitan Alliance of Police Chapter 381.
The police officers have a current contract that is valid through August 31, 2028.
The police officers receive a raise every September on the 1st.
The UIC Police are State of Illinois sworn police officers that enforce state and local laws on and around the campus.
Our police officers handle a wide range of responsibilities that vary from law enforcement to building security to include arrest powers. UIC Police Officers process arrests and attend/testify to their cases in court.

NOTE: Persons who have not successfully completed the mandated firearm training course, as approved and recognized by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training & Standards Board, must complete the course during their probationary period. Police officers are not authorized to carry a service weapon until successfully completing such training.
