The City of Wood Dale (population 13,770) is seeking one full-time Community Service Officer.
The Community Service Officer position involves responsibility for protecting life and property, preventing crime, responding to non-criminal complaints, and enforcing laws and ordinances. The position may be assigned to duties involving animal control, traffic control, parking enforcement, assisting motorists, and other duties as assigned by the Deputy Chief or his designee. The position will also assist with ensuring compliance for certain property maintenance and code violations. Work is normally performed without direct supervision and an individual must be able to exercise independent judgment in meeting various situations.
The successful candidate must have the ability to read and understand department procedures, rules, and regulations, as well as the ability to learn applicable local codes, ordinances, and state statutes. Must also be able to deal firmly but courteously with the public, communicate effectively both orally and in writing, analyze situations quickly and objectively to determine proper courses of action. A high school diploma is required. Experience working for a municipality, specifically law enforcement, is desired. Experience in work involving public contact is preferred. Candidates must have a valid Illinois Class D driver's license and must be able to lift 50 lbs.
The Community Service Officer is a non-sworn position and will be required to work a variety of shifts and hours depending upon the needs of the department. The traditional shifts for the assignment at this time are 7:00am – 3:00pm, 10:00am – 6:00pm and 3:00pm – 11:00pm. These hours of the week are subject to change at any time. This position may be required to work overtime assignments and holidays.
