Recruiting Police Officer Candidates

The Danville Police Department is a proactive law enforcement agency supported by its administration, City leaders, Council and community.

The City of Danville, Illinois is seeking and accepting applications from those interested in applying for the position of Police Officer. This position is classified as entry-level.

Danville Police Department's rank structure is Officer/Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Deputy Chief and Chief.

All police officer candidates must be able to successfully pass physical agility, written, oral interview, medical and psychological testing.

Minimum Requirements:

• All candidates are required to have a high school diploma/GED and 30 accredited college hours.
• A thorough background investigation is required for all candidates prior to consideration for hire.
• All candidates must have a valid driver's license or ability to obtain one prior to appointment and be eligible to carry a firearm in the State of Illinois.
• Each candidate must be 21 to 35 years of age at time of appointment. 

This position is responsible for the handling of law enforcement activity including, but not limited to, responding to calls for service, assigned tasks and details, and self-initiated contacts. The Police Officer works directly with citizens and assists in resolving problems/conflicts, as well as representing the City with a courteous, helpful and professional manner. The Officer reports to a Police Sergeant or assigned supervisor.
