Position Details

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under general supervision a Corrections Officer will perform work of routine difficulty in overseeing and securing detainees within the Kankakee County Sheriff Office.

The varied work the officer will accomplish:

• Enforcing rules and regulations and maintaining order of detainee population
• Escorting and supervising detainee's throughout detention centers
• Transporting and supervising detainee's to and from court and medical appointments
• Detainee court records are kept daily 

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of the job, the officer will be required to:

• Sit, stand and walk
• Climb heights {stairs)
• Familiarity of computers
• Reach above shoulder level, crouch, kneel, balance, push/pull and carry up to 150 pounds.
• Ability to maintain an above average physical condition and able to physically maintain control of an Detainee. 

Work Environment:

Work is performed in a detention facility and an outdoor setting with a high noise level. Exposure to natural weather conditions and temperatures, various dusts, smoke and mists, and normal debris and hazards may occur while performing outdoor duties. Work occasionally involves personal danger. Call out, irregular hours, night shift, weekend and holiday work is required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

• US Citizen
• 18 years old
• High School Diploma or G.E.D
• Valid Driver's license
• Pass background comprehensive investigation
• Must not have received a dishonorable or undesirable discharge from the Armed Forces of the United States
