Position Details

The Village of Mundelein is seeking an Illinois Licensed Social Worker to fill the position of Police Social Worker.

The Police Social Worker is a civilian position and provides crisis intervention, short-term counseling, advocacy, community outreach and education and other social service assistance to the Police Department and the Village of Mundelein.

Essential job responsibilities include:

• Providing crisis intervention and counseling services to the general public and police department
• Serve as a consultant to police officers
• Provide professional advice to individuals and officers regarding management of cases
• Facilitate social service-related training for police officers
• Emergency social service assistance after working hours may be required to aid officers in the field as necessary 

Work is performed under the indirect supervision of the Director of Support Services.

Requires:

• Possession of a Master’s degree in social work or a related field and Illinois license in social work or counseling.
• Candidates must be bilingual English/Española.
• Training, experience and professional counseling skills in areas of crisis intervention, diagnostic assessment and treatment, including clinical skills in treating such areas as domestic violence, substance abuse, grief, aging, juvenile delinquency, and mental health is required.
• Ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing
• Be able to effectively manage and use discretion in crisis situations
• Possess the ability to maintain confidential information and to work with a diverse population of individuals 
• The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Police Department personnel as well as other social service agencies and professionals within and outside the community is an essential job function 
• Candidate must possess knowledge of Federal and State laws and acts applicable to the social services.
