  Regular work hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Any hours worked over the regular 8 hours will be paid at time and a half.

Position Details

We are a covert / undercover narcotics group based out of Danville, Illinois and normally conduct investigations in Vermilion County. However, all of our agents are Inspectors under the Illinois State Police and therefore have statewide jurisdiction. Many times, an investigation will take us outside of the borders of Vermilion County and occasionally outside of the borders of Illinois. On certain cases, we will seek federal prosecution and we have many partners locally, statewide, and federally.

Our police officers are 100% devoted to being drug agents. They do not work traffic enforcement, respond to domestic violence calls, etc. We conduct follow-up investigations on arrests made by other departments and we also initiate our own case work. We use confidential sources and undercover agents to purchase drugs and conduct investigations. We execute a lot of search warrants.

The successful candidate will be trained in basic narcotics investigation, interview and interrogation, and other disciplines as needed.

You will be required to make a two-year commitment at VMEG.

Agents rotate being on call. All agents are subject to call out.

There is a residency requirement for Vermilion County, Illinois.

If the successful candidate is not a certified full-time police officer, VMEG will send that person to one of four police academies in Illinois.

If you want to break into law enforcement, the value is not in the salary, but the opportunity to get your start and also the experience you will gain. 

Requirements:

• Must be a U.S. citizen
• Must be at least 21 years of age (or 21 upon graduation from training)
• Must have a high school diploma
• Must be able to pass the ILETSB physical fitness test
• Must be able to pass an Illinois State Police background check
• Must be able to complete a 14 week police training academy
