Position Details

There are currently two openings.

The Manhattan Police Department is actively seeking qualified lateral transfer candidates for the position of Full-Time Police Officer.

Applicants for appointment as a police officer MUST meet all of the following qualifications to be considered for employment as a full-time Lateral Police Officer:

• Be at least 23 years of age and under 36 years of age at the time of appointment. However, a veteran shall be allowed to exceed the maximum age provision of this Section by the number of years served on active military duty, but by no more than 10 years of active military duty.
• Have completed 30 hours of college credit with a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale. The requirement that a police applicant possess 30 hours of college credit with a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale under this subsection does not apply if one or more of the following applies:
• the applicant has served for 24 months of honorable active duty in the United States Armed Forces and has not been discharged dishonorably or under circumstances other than honorable
• the applicant has served for 180 days of active duty in the United States Armed Forces in combat duty recognized by the Department of Defense and has not been discharged dishonorably or under circumstances other than honorable.
• Currently employed as a police officer with 2 years of experience as a full-time, sworn police officer with any municipal, county or State law enforcement agency. 

The Manhattan Police Department serves a rapidly growing, rural-suburban community of approximately 9,500 residents located approximately 1 mile south of New Lenox in Will County. Manhattan is served by the Manhattan and Lincoln-way School Districts.  The Department is authorized to employ 14 full-time officers, 9 part-time officers and currently operates on a 12-hour shift rotation.
