Position Details

The Boone County Sheriff's Office is now accepting applications for the position of Deputy Sheriff for Boone County Sheriff.

Testing is being conducted for immediate hiring needs and to establish an Eligibility List for anticipated future hiring needs.

Boone County Sheriff’s Department patrols all of Boone County with a land mass of approximately 288 square miles.  The Sheriff is in charge of the constitutional and statutory responsibilities of enforcing federal and state laws, as well as local county ordinances within the unincorporated areas of the county.  The Boone County Sheriff’s Office is housed in the Public Safety Building in Belvidere, IL.  The Boone County Sheriff’s Office offers advanced training and opportunities such as SWAT, Drone Operators, Drug Enforcement, K9, Federal & State Taskforces, Accident Reconstruction, School Resource Officer, Hostage Negotiators, Crime Scene Investigators, Truck Enforcement and General Case Detectives.  All deputies who live within Boone County are issued a take home squad.

You must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Citizenship:  Must be a U.S. Citizen
• Driver’s License:  Must have a valid driver’s license with the ability to obtain an Illinois Driver’s license upon hiring.
• Age Requirements:  Must have attained their 21st birthday at the time of the last date for filing applications (7/13/22).
• Education:  Must have a High School Diploma, GED, or High School Proficiency Certificate.
• Character:  Must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character
• Eyesight:  Eyesight must be correctable to 20/20 in each eye.
• Testing:  Must be able to participate and successfully complete all phases of the testing.
• Residency:  Within thirty (30) days after completion of their probationary period, must reside within twenty-one (21) miles of the Public Safety Building located at 615 North Main St., Belvidere, Illinois.
