  • After 6 months: $29.76/hour
  • After 1 year: $30.33/hour
  • Annual increases thereafter

  This is a full-time, union position.

  Starting: $29.09/hour*

  * Experienced Operators with less than seven years of experience will receive a pay step for every two (complete) years of experience in a certified 911 dispatching center.

  Additional pay increases will occur on an annual basis from date of hire.

  This is a full-time, union position.

The City of Aurora has opened testing and is accepting applications for the position of Telecommunications Operator.

Description:

Under the direction of the Lead Telecommunications Operator, performs duties including the operation of a two-way radio/telephone to dispatch emergency personnel.

Duties of this position include but are not limited to:

• Responding to highly stressed/distressed calls from general public
• Perform constant data entry
• Extract data and record essential information during emergency calls
• Maintain thorough logs of shift activities through use of Computer-Aided Dispatch Systems (CAD)
• Operate LEADS and NCIC terminal, TTD and TTY equipment
• Dispatch tow trucks, ambulances, or other emergency equipment accordingly to accident scenes
• Performs general clerical duties related to position 

Must have the ability to complete licensing requirements, speak clearly, work in a stressful environment, and multitask. Required to work rotating shifts during training. This position may require you to work the first, second, or third shift, including weekends and holidays.

The City of Aurora’s Police Department is seeking experienced Telecommunications Operator for LATERAL* entry.

*LATERAL candidates must have Federal Communication Commission licensing requirements and have a minimum of two (2) years as a full-time 911 Dispatcher/Telecommunications Operator with a law enforcement agency.
