Elmhurst, Illinois

The Board of Police and Fire Commissioners of the City of Elmhurst, Illinois is accepting applications for Full Time Entry-Level Police Officer Applicants with the Elmhurst Police Department.

Current assigned shift schedules:

12 hour days

All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements established by the City of Elmhurst:

• Must be a citizen of the United States
• Must have High School diploma or equivalent high school education
• Must be 21 years of age, and under 35 years of age at time of application (October 20, 2022), or as otherwise exempt by statute
• Must have completed forty-five (45) semester hours of college credit (100 level or above) from a regionally accredited college or university – a copy of official transcripts required by application deadline (October 20, 2022)
• Must have a valid driver's license
• Must submit a valid Peace Officer Wellness Evaluation Report (POWER) issued by testing date (November 1, 2022). POWER test cards considered valid if issued within six (6) months PRIOR to testing date. POWER test may be taken at one of the following testing agencies:
• NIPSTA – Glenview, IL – www.nipsta.org
• Joliet Junior College – Joliet, IL - www.jjc.edu
• Triton College - www.triton.edu/power

Preference Point Information:

Following successful completion of the written exam, you will have an opportunity to collect a maximum of five (5) preference points.

Preference points will be available in the following categories:

• Military Experience: Veterans with not less than one year of active duty and an honorable discharge from service (or who are now or may hereafter be on inactive or reserve duty) – 5 Points
• Law Enforcement Certification: Must have successfully completed the Minimum Standard Basic Law Enforcement Training Course as provided within the Illinois Police Training Act and are currently serving as a full-time or part time law enforcement officer within the State of Illinois. – 5 points
• Educational Preference: Must have obtained one of the following:
• An Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice or Law Enforcement from a regionally accredited institution – 1 Point (not cumulative)
• A Bachelor's Degree in any field from a regionally accredited institution – 2 points (not cumulative)
• A Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or Law Enforcement from a regionally accredited institution – 3 points (not cumulative)
• A Master's Degree in any field from a regionally accredited institution – 4 points (not cumulative)

Submission of Application:

Applications MUST be submitted online by Thursday, October 20, 2022 at 4:00 PM (CST).

Faxed, e-mailed, mailed or dropped off applications will NOT be accepted. Applications submitted after the deadline will NOT be accepted. Only one application per person, per testing cycle will be accepted.

Mandatory Remote On-Line Written Examination:

Following completion of all application materials and review of minimum qualifications, successful applicants will be invited to participate in remote on-line written exam testing:

Starting at 9 AM on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 through Thursday, November 3, 2022 at 4 PM

The test will only be available during this time period. Candidates will need to have access to a laptop or desktop computer. All candidates will receive an email approximately one week prior regarding their status in the process, along with further instructions for taking the on-line written exam.
