• Full-Time: $65,888 - $87,427 (Starting salary dependent on qualifications)

Position Details

The Village of Wilmette is seeking to fill the full-time and part-time position of Police Telecommunicator (911 Operator).

This position reports to the Police Communications Supervisor and must be available to workdays, evenings, midnights, weekends and holidays.

General Responsibilities:

• This is a civilian position primarily responsible for the operation of the public safety radio and computer aided dispatch (CAD) systems, and handling requests for emergency service.
• The person in this position must be able to operate radio equipment, telephones and computer systems in order to monitor, receive, and effectively transmit verbal emergency and non-emergency messages.
• This position will handle after-hour emergency calls for other Village departments, accept complaints from citizens, monitor the security and safety of prisoners, perform computerized data entry and other administrative tasks as required. 

Position Requirements:

• The successful candidate will have completed some college and have at least two years of practical experience in a related field.
• Essential position requirements include excellent communication and organizational skills and possess the ability to remain calm during stressful situations.
• Ideal candidate must clearly demonstrable written, oral, listening, and organizational skills.
• The position works under general supervision; consequently, the successful candidate should be self-motivated and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

• Psychological evaluation

• Pre-employment physical with drug and alcohol testing
• Thorough background investigation
