THE VILLAGE OF BARRINGTON HILLS IS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS
FOR THE POSITION OF PART-TIME POLICE OFFICER
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The part-time police officer performs responsible police work in the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances. Work involves patrolling assigned areas, conducting premises checks, traffic and criminal investigations, and preparing detailed accurate written reports.
This is a part-time position with a non-standard schedule. Part-time officers will be scheduled for a minimum of 48 hours per month and are also expected to assist in filling non-scheduled patrol vacancies on short notice, if needed. Therefore, the ideal candidate for this position is a recently retired or soon to be retired officer or someone without the availability constraints of full-time employment. Also, please note that Department policy does not allow for concurrent employment as a sworn law enforcement officer at another agency.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):
- Availability and willingness to work weekend, holiday, and day or night 12-hour shifts (6AM-6PM or 6PM-6AM or any combination thereof).
- Successfully complete the Department's Field Training Program, which will likely span the first 12 months of employment, depending on the number of hours worked each month.
- Attend all training and maintain all certifications required of full-time officers.
- Uniform patrol, traffic enforcement, traffic control, motor vehicle assists, and traffic crash investigations.
- Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service, community policing, assist and render aid to citizens, conduct building checks, investigate suspicious persons, vehicles, noises, etc.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- Education:
- Associate Degree or 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours, C grade point average or better. Training
- Training:
- Must be an Illinois certified police officer and eligible for a training waiver from the Illinois Training and Standards Board (ILETSB). No exceptions.
- Experience:
- Two (2) years' experience as a sworn, certified law enforcement officer within the last three (3) years preceding the date of application. Municipal and full-time experience preferred.
- Additional Qualifications:
- United States Citizen
- Must possess a valid driver's license
- No felony convictions (or convictions for certain misdemeanors)
- Vision correctable to 20/20
- Reside within a one-hour drive time to the Village of Barrington Hills
SELECTION PROCESS:
- Application submission. A resume is encouraged but not mandatory.
- Applications will be accepted until October 31, 2022, at 4:00 PM and then reviewed.
- The candidates deemed most qualified will be invited to continue in the process, which will include providing supplementary information and participating in an interview.
- Successful completion of a polygraph, psychological, and medical examinations, as well as a thorough background check with fingerprinting and a drug screen are required after a conditional offer of employment.
