• • Full-Time Lateral entry officers may qualify for starting pay increases:
  • Officers who have completed two or more years of prior service, as an officer, will start at Step 3 of the CBA’s salary schedule (currently at $75,481 plus $3,193 holiday pay, totaling $78,674). 
  • Officers who have completed one year of prior service, as an officer, will start at Step 2 of the CBA’s salary schedule (currently at $71,354 plus $3,019 holiday pay, totaling $74,373).
  • Lansing Patrol Officer pay range: $66,244, with a top pay of $99,269 (including holiday pay)
  • Pension Examples for a patrol officer that retired in 2022 (using current $99,269 salary):
  • 20 years of service: $49,634 annually with a 3% cola every year thereafter 
  • 25 years of service: $62,043 annually with a 3% cola every year thereafter
  • 30 years of service: $74,451 annually with a 3% cola every year thereafter

Position Details

Lateral Police Officer applications are being accepted from both full-time and part-time ILETSB trained officers and currently employed out of state trained full-time officers, including Indiana.

The Village of Lansing has NO residency requirement, including out of state residency.

The Lansing Police Department is accepting applications for the Lateral Entry Police Officer.

Current Police Officer Work Schedule:

12-hour schedule - 2 days on/2 days off, 3 days on/2 days off, 2 days on/3 days off – Repeat.

Every other weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) is a scheduled three days off.

Applicants who successfully meet the qualifications for lateral entry will be considered for oral interviews. Applicants who successfully complete the oral interview, and who are offered a conditional offer of employment, will be required to undergo a background investigation, polygraph, psychological examination, physical examination, and drug test.  Any hired applicants will be subject to all relevant Lansing Police Department policies and procedures, as well as any applicable collective bargaining agreement (CBA).
