$28.75 - $34.35/hour
Hours: 8-hour shifts, based on Departmental needs
Under regular supervision, provides basic police services in accordance with the mission, goals and objectives of Northeastern Illinois University and the Northeastern Illinois University Police department, in compliance with all governing federal and state laws.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AS OUTLINED IN THE CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION CREDENTIALS TO BE VERIFIED BY PLACEMENT OFFICER.
NOTE: Persons who have not successfully completed the mandated firearm training course, as approved and recognized by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training & Standards Board, must complete the course during their probationary period. Police officers are not authorized to carry a service weapon until successfully completing such training.
This position accepts lateral transfers.
NOTE:
This position requires good communication skills, both verbal and written. Incumbent will have direct contact with all members of the University and campus visitors. Will prepare written investigative reports, give oral statements in court and at University Hearings. This position requires long periods of standing and walking. Many tasks are performed outside in cold, hot and inclement weather. Few tasks require heavy lifting, pushing, pulling or carrying heavy loads. Flexibility is important because of the need to enter and exit vehicles frequently, inspect exteriors of buildings, climb over and around obstacles and to be able to quickly move out of the way of dangerous situations. Mental alertness is important because of the need to make good judgments and decisions concerning subtle cues of impending danger and to discover inconsistencies in witnesses' or suspects testimonies. Therefore, the incumbent must maintain a physical and mental state of fitness and readiness that will enable them to handle, (with minimal force and often without assistance) recurrent contacts and involvements with dangerous and potentially dangerous people, animals and equipment.
