Police Officer

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The police officer performs responsible police work in the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances. Work involves patrolling assigned areas, executing premises checks, traffic and conducting criminal investigations, and preparing detailed accurate written reports.

This is a full-time position with a rotating day-off 12-hour shift schedule. Shift assignments (6 AM - 6 PM and 6 PM - 6 AM) are selected by seniority.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):

• Full-service municipal policing
• Enforcement of state and local laws
• Uniform patrol, traffic enforcement, traffic control, motor vehicle assists, and traffic crash investigations.
• Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service, community policing, assist and render aid to citizens, conduct building checks, investigate suspicious persons, vehicles, noises, etc.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

• Education:
• Associate Degree or 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours, C grade point average or better.
• Training:
• None required; however, academy training and Illinois certification is a plus.
• Experience:
• None required; however, experienced officers are encouraged to apply.
• Additional Qualifications:
• United States Citizen
• Must possess a valid driver's license
• No felony convictions (or convictions for certain misdemeanors)
• Vision correctable to 20/20
• Reside within a one-hour drive time to the Village of Barrington Hills
• Must possess a P.O.W.E.R. Test card issued by Northern Illinois Public Safety Training Academy (NIPSTA), Joliet Community College, or Triton Community College (issued during the previous 12 months)

SELECTION PROCESS:

• Application submission.
• Applications will be accepted until December 30, 2022, at 4:00 PM and then reviewed.
• The candidates deemed most qualified will be invited to continue in the process, which will include providing supplementary information and participating in an interview.
• Successful completion of a polygraph, psychological, and medical examinations, as well as a thorough background check with fingerprinting and a drug screen are required after a conditional offer of employment.
