The successful candidate will have a working knowledge of the California Penal Code, Vehicle Code, and Education Code, familiarity with the educational goals of the Community College system, and knowledge of law enforcement principles. The candidate will have the ability to communicate with various types of individuals, deal with adversity, work in a team environment, follow orders and procedures, the ability to learn and adapt to new and different situations and develop positive working relationships. The successful candidate can multi-task, prioritize projects, and meet mandatory and regulatory deadlines.
The District reserves the right to hire one or more Safety Officers from this pool of qualified candidates.
Positions are 100%, 12 month, classified positions.
One position will be assigned to the graveyard shift and receive a 5% shift differential. This position is funded by grant funds, and employment is subject to those funds being available.
Under the direction of the Chief of Campus Police Services, conduct patrols of campus grounds and assigned areas on foot and in a vehicle; respond to service calls; investigate crimes and incidents; prepare, update, submit and issue a variety of documents; issue parking and traffic citations; open and secure campus as assigned; process and issue parking permits, carpool permits and room keys to students, guests, staff and faculty in compliance with College policies; provide assistance to the Chief and campus police personnel as assigned.
The Campus Safety Officer I is the entry-level position in the series. Incumbents are responsible for maintaining Campus safety in accordance with College policies and procedures. The Campus Safety Officer II is the senior level position in the series. Incumbents provide assistance to senior safety personnel regarding complex Campus Safety activities.
