Firefighter Minimum Requirements:
- $35 Application Fee
- U.S. Citizenship
- Must meet the following education requirement with grade of "C" or better from an accredited college/university:
- Associate's Degree OR
- 48 completed semester hours OR
- 60 completed quarter hours
- Valid driver's license with the ability to obtain an Illinois driver's license before hire
- Must be 20 years of age and under 35 at time of application deadline, unless exempt by state statute
- Illinois certified Firefighter II/Basic Operations Firefighter with the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal by application deadline
- Must have current and valid Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) EMT-Basic License (or higher), by application deadline and maintain through hire*
- Must possess a current and valid CPAT/Ladder Climb card at time of application deadline (1/25/2023). Cards will be considered valid if issued within one year from the date listed above (1/25/2022 – 1/25/2023). Must also be valid at time of conditional offer*.
*Note: It is the responsibility of the candidate to make sure their CPAT is up to date and includes the Ladder Climb. Any candidate NOT possessing a valid CPAT card with Ladder Climb and a current Illinois Licensed EMT-B "at the time of conditional offer" will be disqualified.
Required documentation due Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at 4:00 PM CST (not accepted via email or fax; documentation must be hand delivered or mailed):
- Complete and confirmed Online Application
- Consent and Release Agreement (2 pages; available after download)
- Character Reference Forms (pages 1-3; available after download)
- Authorization & Release Forms (pages 4-7; available after download)
- Copy of valid driver's license
- Copy of birth record as proof of citizenship
- Original/Official transcripts- must indicate attainment of an Associate's Degree, 48 completed semester hours, or 60 completed quarter hours with a "C" or above, from an accredited college/university. *Unofficial transcripts are not accepted.
- Copy of Valid IDPH EMT- Basic (or higher)
- Copy of Firefighter II/Basic Operations Certification issued by the IL Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM)
- Copy of a valid CPAT and Ladder Climb certification- due by date of application deadline- will be considered valid if issued between 01/25/2022 – 01/25/2023
In-Home Testing Information:
Your written examination will be offered electronically, and you will take the exam in your own home. There will be multiple sessions offered and each will be proctored virtually. All sessions will be offered during business hours the week of February 27, 2023 – it is your responsibility to ensure you have the flexibility to test during these times.
On or about Friday, February 17, 2023, you will receive an email with instructions on how to schedule and prepare for the exam. Please read through the instructions carefully before your exam date. Failure to follow the steps outlined may cause the electronic exam to not work properly, potentially resulting in your removal from the testing session.
Application Process Information:
When you have completed the online application you will receive a confirmation number. You will also need to print and sign the required release forms and gather the required documentation (listed above) for submission to IOS Recruitment by 4:00 p.m. on 01/25/2023. Failure to complete any portion of the application process with eliminate you for further consideration. No refunds are issued for incomplete or late applications.
