The Deputy Chiefs are responsible for management and administrative work and assist in the planning and coordination of Police Department operations including field operations, criminal investigations, management services and records management; they coordinate assigned activities with other Village departments and outside agencies and provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Police Chief.

Candidates must be adept at and show a history of engagement with an active and involved community, demonstrate a sincere commitment to 21st Century Policing, a vision of equity and inclusion within the Police Department and beyond, and the ability to cultivate a positive work climate that is reflective of the Village's Core Values. The successful Candidates will also have strong technical, strategic planning and organizational management skills that are consistently informed by the use of data.

The Village Board engaged the services of consultant BerryDunn to conduct a community safety assessment to examine several aspects of local policing including overall operations, internal and external race equity issues, the Department's response-to-calls-for-service model and how other communities address policing equity issues. The Deputy Chiefs of Police will be instrumental in the implementation of the results of this study.
