Position Details

DUPAGE COUNTY SHERIFF’S MERIT COMMISSION

DuPage County Sheriff’s Merit Commission is seeking applicants to establish an eligibility list for Deputy Sheriff – Law Enforcement.

Qualifications:

• Be at least 21 years of age at the time application is received by the Commission
• Be a United States citizen
• Be a resident of the State of Illinois, or become a resident upon certification
• Reside within the residency boundaries or relocate within the required residency boundaries within (1) year of appointment as Deputy Sheriff
• Hold a valid Illinois drivers license, which has not been suspended or revoked, or obtain one upon certification
• Meet one or more of the following credentials:
• Have completed at least 30 semester hours at an accredited university, college, junior or community college; or other institution of higher learning (but not trade or vocational school)
• Have a high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate and service in the United States military
• Have a high school diploma and two (2) years of service as a full-time peace officer with a police department or sheriff’s office in the United States with a letter of creditable service
• Have a combination of educational, military service, and/or law enforcement experience determined as suitable by the Commission for candidacy as a Deputy Sheriff - Corrections
• Not have a felony conviction nor a domestic violence criminal conviction nor a dishonorable discharge (U.S. Army RE-4 separation classification or equivalent) from military service
• Present a valid P.O.W.E.R. (Peace Officer Wellness Evaluation Report) card issued within the last 12 months
• Pass a written examination, background investigation, interview, and other screening and testing required by the Commission. Applicants who pass the written examination will receive more information about the subsequent phases in the testing process.

Honorably discharged veterans with at least 1 year of service in the U.S. Armed Forces may be eligible for Veterans preference.

Those currently employed in the State of Illinois as Deputy Sheriffs or Municipal Police Officers with at least two (2) years of service may be eligible for lateral transfer:
