Position Details

The Village of South Chicago Heights was incorporated in 1907 and is a mature community that is home to 4,200 culturally diverse citizens. The Village is located 25 miles south of downtown Chicago, Illinois.

The Police Department is committed to providing the highest quality police service to those who live, work, and visit the Village of South Chicago Heights. The department works in collaboration with the community and strives to maintain the utmost level of public safety with the goal of maintaining the quality of life expected within the village. The Police Department is made up of 36 Sworn Officers, 12 full time, 24 part time, with 1 civilian position. The Department responds to approximately 8,000 calls for service annually, which range from emergency calls to general service calls.

If you are currently, or were recently employed as a police officer, retired, full-time, or part-time, and are interested in becoming a Police Officer for the Village of South Chicago Heights, IL applications are being accepted February 15, 2023 through March 30, 2023.

Applicants:

• Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment.
• Must be currently, or recently employed as an Illinois certified law enforcement officer either full-time or part time.
• Candidates who are enrolled in an ILETSB certified police academy may also apply but must be certified prior to hire.
• All lateral transfer entry process candidates must provide documentation to show that they are currently or recently were employed as a full-time or part-time certified Peace Officer in the State of Illinois.
• Must provide documentation that they have fulfilled the requirements of the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Act.
• Lateral transfer entry candidates who meet these requirements and are selected for entry will not be required to take an entry level written exam or entry level physical agility exam.
• Lateral transfer entry candidates will be required to complete all other phases of the entry process before an offer of employment. This process will also include:
• Application and experience verification 
• Oral Interviews
• Background Investigation 
• Psychological exam
• Polygraph exam
• Medical exam

You will be required to file an application and resume with all training documents and certifications prior to the close of business on March 30, 2023, at the South Chicago Heights Police Department.

Once hired, the applicant will be required to successfully complete a field training program and 12-month probation period.
