Position Details

The Calumet City Police Department serves a population of 36,500 residents strong in ethnic, racial, and cultural diversity.

The Calumet City Police Department 9-1-1 Center operates 24 hours a day and is responsible for receiving and processing emergency and non-emergency calls from the public requesting police, fire, medical and other emergency services. This is a fast paced, challenging, and exciting career field.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be twenty-one (21) years of age at time of hire
• Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
• Successfully complete the Criti-Call Online dispatching exam
• Must pass a thorough background investigation, including:
• Polygraph
• Psychological exam
• Medical and drug screenings 

DUTIES:

• Receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls from the public requesting police, fire, medical, or other emergency services
• Dispatch and track the locations of emergency personnel
• Monitor and broadcast information to emergency personnel in the field
• Operate a variety of communications equipment including Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), Records Management System (RMS), radio consoles, telephones and other computer systems
• Additional duties include monitoring dispatch and law enforcement technology equipment, researching computer records, and updating and maintaining computer files and databases
