This is a listing for the position of a full-time police officer.
Applicants if hired should expect to work for a small community, where you can see the difference you make. Officers should expect to work for a community and department that supports its police officers.
Officer(s) hired should expect to have the opportunity to participate in training courses from Tri-River Police Training region, Northeast Multi-Regional Training Incorporated, and multiple outside training opportunities as the Rockdale Police Department has embedded its foundation in the skills and opportunities found in training.
Candidates must have strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing. Candidates should possess good interpersonal skills, common sense, and have the ability to problem-solve.
Applicants who are hired should be expected to conduct preventative patrol and general policing functions to protect the health, safety, and welfare of lives and property within the Village. Officers provide an initial response to emergency and non-emergency service requests, investigate complaints, document investigative findings, enforce laws and ordinances, complete reports, and provide a wide range of public service activities. The officers will also perform other related duties, as assigned. Officers currently work 8-hour shifts.
Must be certified either part-time or full time from an Illinois Basic Law Enforcement Academy and possess certification from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board or be qualified to take the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board “Out of State Reciprocity” requirements, to include Mandatory Firearms Training, Law for Illinois Police, and Equivalency Exam.
There is no application deadline. Applications will be reviewed every 30 days, starting on March 31, 2023, until all positions are fulfilled. A list will be generated with the remaining applicants for potential future hiring.
If selected, newly appointed officers must successfully pass a field training program that will vary in time but could last up to 12 weeks. Officers are placed on probation for 18 months but may be released early if they excel in the position hired for. Officers certified part-time will be sent to the 80 hour transition course and certified as full-time.
