Police Officer Minimum Requirements:

• $20 non-refundable application fee
• U.S. citizenship 
• Must be at least 20 years old and less than 35 years of age at time of written exam
• Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire 
• High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
• Valid driver’s license 
• Valid P.O.W.E.R. test card dated within one year from the date of the written exam. Must be dated May 6, 2022 - May 6, 2023. The following places are acceptable places to take the P.O.W.E.R. test:
  • o N.I.P.S.T.A. http://www.nipsta.org/POWER/register.aspx
  • o Joliet Junior College http://www.jjc.edu/about-jjc/facilities/power-testing
• Be of good moral character

Orientation and Testing Information:

Candidates must attend the mandatory orientation and written examination on:

Test will be held in Waukegan, IL.

Specific testing details will be provided to eligible candidates prior to the exam date.

In the event that a candidate is unable to obtain a valid POWER test card dated 5/6/2022 – 5/6/2023, they will have the option to take the POWER test, administered in Waukegan immediately following the written examination.

All portions of the testing process are mandatory. Failure to attend and successfully complete any portion of the process will result in elimination from employment consideration.
