• Starting Annual Base: $61,692 - $86,369 based on years of service

Position Details

Job Duties:

• This position assists Patrol with various non-sworn activities. These activities include performing traffic control, private property traffic crashes, and school crossing duties.
• Assists with disabled automobiles and automobile lock-outs.
• Submits reports for supervisor's review and completes timely corrections as required.
• Installs child safety seats and instructs drivers on child seat safety.
• Enforces parking ordinances and mediates complaints from the public.
• Testifies, as needed, in adjudication hearings and district court.
• This position will provide administrative and office support to the Police Department, those tasks include assists with fingerprinting requests, conducts court runs as needed, assists with packet delivery, and conducts bank runs.
• Also, this position will assist with animal control and enforcement. Responds to and investigates domestic animal and wildlife calls, including animals running at large, animal bite complaints and ordinance violations. Examines animals for injuries and euthanizes sick or injured animals. Transports animals to shelters when required.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants for the Public Service Officer position must meet the following minimum qualifications and requirements at the time of application:

• Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and some general work experience.
• The employee must have the ability to understand and enforce written laws and ordinances.
• The employee will have frequent contact with residents and other outsiders and must have the ability to diffuse confrontational situations.
• Public relations skills in the handling of complaints is required.
• The employee will work regularly with the public and must be able to provide high quality customer service.
• The employee must be knowledgeable in department procedures and in the use of standard office equipment, computers, data entry, and relevant software programs.
• The employee must have the ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions, work independently with minimal supervision, multitask and prioritize workload.
• Valid driver's license, FOID, LEADS, CPR and Child Seat certifications are required.
• This position is typically required to work daytime hours Monday - Friday, in 8 hour blocks typically between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. The schedule may vary, including length of shift, start and end times, and the days assigned to work may vary based on operational needs. This position may be asked to work hours outside the assigned schedule based on departmental needs and during Village emergences, including weekends.
