Position Details

IMMEDIATE OPENINGS

The Lake in the Hills Police Department is seeking qualified, experienced police officers to join our community.

• Have every other weekend off
• Friday, Saturday, Sunday with 12 hour shifts (Non-rotating and bid by seniority each year: 5am-5pm & 5pm-5am)
• Competitive lateral transfer salary equal to years of service, training and experience
• Facial Hair and visible tattoos allowed (subject to standards outlined in SOP)
• New Police Facility scheduled to be completed in late 2024, early 2025 - with a FITNESS FACILITY, INDOOR SQUAD PARKING, and WELLNESS ROOMS
• Several vacancies available due to retirements and addition of 2 sworn positions - this could mean almost instant seniority

Our department is made up of some of the most dedicated, highly trained, community oriented police officers in the country. We're looking for officers who are willing to serve and protect the Village of Lake in the Hills and make a profound difference in the community.

Minimum Qualifications: 

• Must possess current Law Enforcement Officer Certification and have been employed in a full time law enforcement capacity for a minimum of 18 months. The totality of the individual's law enforcement training and work experience will be considered.
• Out of state applicants with 18 months full time law enforcement experience will be considered in accordance with the Illinois Training and Standards Board reciprocity process. Military law enforcement training does not meet the conditions for reciprocity in Illinois.
• United States citizen
• 21 years of age at time of appointment.
• Must possess a valid Driver's License at the time of application with the ability to obtain an Illinois Driver's License upon time of hire.
• Must have proof of High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement.
• Must reside within a 20 air mile radius of the corporate limits of the Village of Lake in the Hills at the end of the established probationary period (12 months).
• Must have eyesight correctable to 20/20 with normal color vision.

The selected candidate will be required to complete a:

• 4-hour ride along with a field training officer
• POWER test
• Psychological examination
• Medical examination
