Minimum Requirements:
- $25 Application fee
- U.S. Citizenship or Legal Resident
- Valid driver’s license
- Must be at least twenty (20) years of age at time of application deadline (May 3, 2023) and be 21 at the time of conditional Offer of Employment and shall be under thirty-five (35) years of age.
- The 35 year age limitation shall not apply in cases where the applicant was previously employed as a full-time police officer in a regularly constituted police department of (i) any municipality located in Illinois. Additionally, the 35-year age limitation shall not apply to any applicant who turned 35 while serving as a member of the active or reserve components of any of the branches of the Armed Forces of the United States or the National Guard of any state, whose service was characterized as honorable or under honorable, if separated from the military, and is currently under the age of 40. Age will be calculated as of the date of scheduled orientation.
- Proof of birth date will be required at time of application. Note that the minimum age for appointment to the position of police officer in the City of Berwyn shall be twenty-one (21), calculated as of the date of a conditional offer of hire.
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED) and have successfully completed 30 hours of Law Enforcement Studies at an accredited college or university OR must have attained an associate’s degree or its equivalent number of hours towards a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Applicants will be required to submit a copy of official transcripts by the application deadline
- Valid Peace Officer Wellness Evaluation Report (POWER) Certification required by time of condition offer of employment – applicants currently in possession of a POWER card are encouraged to submit a copy of their card with their application
- POWER test may be taken at one of the following testing agencies:
- Must not have been convicted of a felony or certain misdemeanors, as defined by Statute
- As a condition of employment, sworn personnel of the Berwyn Police Department are required to reside within the boundaries of the following counties within the state of Illinois: Cook, DuPage, Will, Kane, Lake and McHenry

Check-in will begin at 9:30 AM and end at 10:00 AM.
There will be no late admittance.

An exam session will be offered electronically. You will take the exam in your own home, and each will be proctored virtually. Exact date and time for the virtual testing session will be determined at a later time.
All portions of the testing process are mandatory. Failure to attend and successfully complete any portion of the process will result in elimination from employment consideration.
