    The City of Naples is offering the following hiring & employment incentives:

    • A City of Naples issued $5,000 signing bonus that will be paid in two (2) installments as outlined below:
      • $2,500 on newly hired Police Officer's first paycheck.
      • $2,500 after successful completion of Field Training Program.
    • Applicants employed on or after July 1, 2022, and who have never been previously employed as a law enforcement officer in the State of Florida, will be eligible to receive a one-time bonus payment of $5,000 paid through the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity Law Enforcement Recruitment Bonus Payment Program. Recipients must maintain continuous full-time employment for at least two (2) consecutive years.
    • Applicants who were not sponsored by an employing agency and who relocated from outside the State of Florida, or who transitioned from service in the special operations forces, and Completed an exemption from training (EOT) may be eligible for reimbursement for up to $1,000 for expenses incurred to obtain Florida law enforcement certification through the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity. These expenses may include fees associated with the EOT assessment, EOT training course, and the Law Enforcement State Officer Certification Examination.
    • Salary premiums offered to those with prior years of sworn law enforcement experience, or sworn military police experience, at another agency or department as follows for FY 2022-2023:
      • $3,993 premium for two (2) through nine (9) years of qualifying previous experience.
      • $4,950 premium for ten or more (10+) years of qualifying previous experience.
    • Up to $2,500 reimbursement for moving expenses to individuals that currently reside 100 or more miles from Naples.
    • Reimbursement of the academy tuition costs to a candidate who paid the cost themselves and has not previously worked for law enforcement agencies. This reimbursement would be contingent upon a 2-year employment commitment. If officer leaves prior to that commitment, he/she will have to pay that amount back to the City (FS 943.16).
    • All uniforms and equipment are provided by the department, with the exception of duty boots. Non-probationary officers with one (1) year of service will receive uniform maintenance allowance of $1,000 annually.
    • Ability to utilize onsite fitness center on-duty.
    • Ninety-six (96) hours of lump-sum paid holiday pay and separate holiday bonus.
    • Bi-weekly longevity pay begins on the 10th anniversary date of hire with the police department.
    • Educational reimbursement of up to $5,000, including tuition and textbooks, per calendar year for college or advanced education courses taken in the pursuit of an associate or bachelor's degree.
    • Other pay incentives available to employees totaling up to $4,500 annually, for those that operate and/or train in certain specialties that enhance the services provided to the public to include: Field Training Officer (FTO), Master Officer designation, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), Criminal Investigations Division (CID), Defensive Tactics Instructor, Driving Instructor, Firearms Instructor, First Aid Instructor, and Hostage Negotiation Team (HNT). 

    PLEASE NOTE: The City of Naples signing bonus, reimbursement of moving expenses, and reimbursement of academy tuition costs received must be repaid if separation from the City of Naples occurs within the first twenty-four (24) months of employment.

Position Details

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

General duty police work responsible for the enforcement of laws and ordinances, prevention, detection and investigation of crime, maintenance of law and order and other duties associated with the protection of life, property and public safety. Law enforcement officers perform duties in accordance with Florida State Statutes, City of Naples policy & procedures and departmental policies & procedures. Position performs essential functions as outlined in the official position description and applicable to assigned functional area. Performs related work as required. Persons hired into this position will be expected to work on an assigned shift, which may include holidays.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Florida Certified Law Enforcement Officers, Out-of-State Certified Law Enforcement Officers, or applicants currently enrolled in a certified Police Academy must meet the following requirements:

  • Possess a valid Florida Department of Law Enforcement Police Officer Certification, possess an out-of-state law enforcement certification with ability to meet eligibility requirements for the Florida CJSTC Equivalency of Training program, or provide proof of current police academy enrollment.
  • Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
  • Must have a valid Florida driver license and received no more than five traffic citations within the past three (3) years. Must not have been convicted of DUI, DWI, or leaving the scene of a traffic crash within the last five (5) years, or have a case pending for any of these offenses.
  • Out-of-State applicants must have a Florida driver license prior to first day of employment with the City.
  • Not have been convicted of any felony, a misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement, or have received a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States. Any person who, after July 1, 1981, pleads nolo contendere to or is found guilty of any felony or misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement, is not eligible for employment pursuant to Florida State Statute 943.13.
  • Achieve a passing score on a Physical Abilities Test (PAT) for law enforcement.
  • Pass a psychological, medical, and drug testing exam.
  • Pass a comprehensive background investigation.
  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Must be a United States citizen.
  • Prohibited from having any visible tattoo that can be deemed reasonably offensive or morally objectionable, including but not limited to, racially oriented, drug related, or sexually explicit words, pictures, or symbols.
  • All new employees are required to sign an affidavit stating they have not been a tobacco user for at least six (6) months prior to their application for employment and will remain tobacco free during their employment with the City of Naples. Tobacco is defined as any lighted or unlighted cigarette, cigar, pipe, nicotine dispensing device, or any other type of smoking product, including smokeless tobacco such as spit tobacco, dip, chew, of snuff, in any form.
