  • Pension portability is ONLY available within Article 3 Pension Funds. The Chicago Police Department, the Illinois State Police, and County Sheriff Departments would be unable to transfer their pension. Most other municipal Illinois police officers contribute to an Article 3 pension fund. If you first began to contribute to Article 3 pension funds prior to January 1, 2011, you would remain in Tier 1. If you began to contribute after January 1, 2011, you would be in Tier 2.

Police Officer - Lateral Hire

The Yorkville Police Department is seeking experienced/certified Illinois police officers to join our team as we look to establish a Secondary Police Officer Eligibility Register.

All applicants shall be certified and an Illinois Law Enforcement Officer with a minimum of 2 years experience.

Qualifications:

• State of Illinois Law Enforcement Certification from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board as a law enforcement officer in good standing (Part-time certification as a law enforcement officer does not meet this requirement.)
• Applicants shall be employed for a minimum of two consecutive years with their current agency as a full-time Sworn Municipal Officer, Illinois State Trooper, or County Sheriff's Deputy and must have completed their probationary period as of June 4, 2023.
• Currently in good standing with the police department in which the person serves or is laid off due to budgetary constraints with that agency
• Possess the knowledge, skills, abilities, and level of experience required pursuant to the call for qualified lateral transfer applicants.
• Valid driver's license, Illinois FOID card, and Social Security number at the time of hire
• U.S. Citizen, or will possess U.S. Citizenship by June 4, 2023.
• Pass oral interview, and in-depth background investigation, including a polygraph
• Pass medical (including drug screen, hearing, and eye exam) and psychological exams after conditional offer of employment
