Position Details

The Manhattan Police Department is actively seeking qualified lateral transfer candidates for the position of Full Time Police Officer.

To be considered for this position you MUST:

• Be at least 23 years of age and under 36 years of age at the time of appointment. However, a veteran shall be allowed to exceed the maximum age by the number of years served on active military duty, but by no more than 10 years of active military duty.
• Have completed 30 hours of college credit with a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale;
• or have served for 24 months of honorable active duty in the United States Armed Forces;
• or have served for 180 days of active duty in the United States Armed Forces in combat duty with honorable discharge recognized by the Department of Defense and has not been discharged dishonorably or under circumstances other than honorable.
• Have a minimum of 2 years of previous employment as a full-time, sworn Police Officer of a Municipal, County or State Law enforcement agency with a population of 5,000 or more. 

The Manhattan Police Department serves a rapidly growing, rural-suburban community of approximately 8,500 people situated approximately 5 miles southeast of Joliet in Will County. The Patrol Division is staffed by 10 full time officers, 7 part time officers and currently operates on a 12-hour shift.
