The Village of Indian Head Park (pop. 4,065) is seeking a proactive and experienced management professional to serve as Chief of Police.

The Indian Head Park Police Department provides excellent service to the community and values continual improvement. The new Chief of Police will lead vital projects for the Indian Head Park Police Department, shaping its future. With a high visibility in the community, the department aims to prioritize safety and provide quality service to residents, businesses, and visitors. The Chief's leadership is crucial for fostering strong relationships, implementing innovative approaches, and utilizing modern technologies to ensure a secure environment for all.
The department is currently composed of a Police Chief, Deputy Chief, 9 full-time officers, 5 part-time officers, and 1 records clerk. Patrol officers (who are on 8-hour shifts) are represented by the Metropolitan Alliance of Police and hired through the Indian Head Park Board of Fire and Police Commission. The Police Chief is appointed by the Village President and approved by the Board of Trustees and reports directly to the Village Administrator. The Chief is expected to maintain a supportive and friendly relationship with the community and residents while upholding personal and professional integrity. The Police Department operates on a budget of $2,000,000, providing resources for training, equipment replacement, and maintaining department facilities.

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experiences:
- Experience in personnel management, employee relations, mentoring police personnel, recruiting, and knowledge of collective bargaining and labor contract administration.
- Demonstrated success in progressively responsible supervisory, administrative, and managerial roles within law enforcement with experience in technology integration.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate effectively, ensuring accountability for the quality and effectiveness of overall department performance.
- Develop and maintain an active and visible relationship with partner and regional public safety networks and neighboring communities.
- Participating in the preparation and presentation of the Police Department budget, including delivery of services in an effective, cost-conscious, manner.
The Indian Head Park Chief of Police will be expected to:
- Function at the highest ethical level and inspire the confidence of appointed and elected officials, department heads, subordinates, and the general public.
- Model and promote the core values of customer service, teamwork, integrity, respect, and trust with the goal of providing excellent services and programs to meet community and organizational needs.
- Engage and partner with the community, integrating innovative, strategic, collaborative solutions ensuring exceptional public safety service.
- Develop personnel to maximize their full potential in the completion of their duties and to create a meaningful work experience and career development path.
- Attend night meetings, special events and work outside of standard office hours, and respond to emergencies as required.
Minimum Requirements:
- A bachelor's degree in law enforcement or criminal justice with 10 years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience that includes 5 years as Chief of Police or comparable command experience. A master's or other advanced degree is highly preferred.
- Executive management training, or completion of equivalent training, in at least one of the following is highly preferred: FBI National Academy, Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command, or other Police executive management training programs.
- Certification as a law enforcement officer in the State of Illinois.
