Position Details

The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the City of Rock Falls are now accepting applications for the position of Entry Level Firefighter.

Testing is being conducted for an immediate need to hire and to establish an eligibility list for future hiring needs.

Rock Falls is a city located just over 100 miles west of the city of Chicago. It is separated from its twin city, Sterling, to the north by the Rock River. The Rock River is a place with many outdoor recreational activities which include kayaking and canoeing along with the many parks available for family fun outings. There is something for everyone in Rock Falls. The Rock Falls Fire Department provides fire protection and rescue services to the City of Rock Falls and to the Rock Falls Rural Fire Protection District along with providing automatic aid to the Sterling Fire Department.

You must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Citizenship:  Must be a U.S. Citizen or legally authorized to work in the U.S.
• Social Security:  Must have a valid Social Security Card and present a copy with your application verification documents.
• Driver’s License:  Must possess a valid Driver’s License at time of application and time of hire
• Age Requirement:  Applicants must have obtained their 21st birthday by the last date for filing applications (8/9/23). Applicants must be under the age of 35 years at the date of testing 8/26/2023 unless exempt by State Statute 70 ILCS 705/116.006 and 65 IL 5/10 – 2. 1-6 which provides, in part, that the age limitation does not apply to any person previously employed as a certified full-time firefighter in a regularly constituted fire department of any municipality or fire protection district located in Illinois.
• Education:  Must have proof of High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement.
• Residence:  Must reside within 30-minute response time after two (2) years.
• Language: Must be able to comprehend the English Language, both spoken and written.
• Tattoo Policy:  No Tattoos on hands, face, neck, others subject to review.
