A community service officer (CSO) is an unarmed civilian employee under the direct supervision of the research and development supervisor. A CSO is responsible for the performance of those departmental activities that do not require the service of sworn police officers. A CSO is responsible for the performance of activities related to the animal control ordinances of the Village with emphasis in the ordinance enforcement, impounding stray animals, follow-up of the animal bite cases, trapping and safely releasing of wild animals and increasing citizen awareness of the animal control ordinances.
As an employee of the Mundelein Police Department, a CSO must comply with the orders, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations of the department. It is also expected that a CSO will perform in a courteous and professional manner in all dealings with the public and department personnel.
