Position Details

The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the Village of Villa Park is now accepting applications for the position of Entry Level Police Officer.

Testing is being conducted for new hires and for anticipated hiring in the near future.

The Department's mission is to protect the rights of all persons within its jurisdiction to be free from criminal attack and to be secure in their possessions, and to live in peace. The Department serves the people of Villa Park by performing the law enforcement function in a professional manner, and it is to these people that the department are ultimately responsible.

A society free from crime and disorder remains an unachieved ideal. However, consistent with the values of a free society, it is the primary objective of the Villa Park Police Department to, as nearly as possible, approach that ideal. The Department's role is to enforce the law in a fair and impartial manner, recognizing both the statutory and judicial limitations of police authority and the constitutional rights of all persons. You must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Citizenship:  Must be a U.S. Citizen
• Driver’s License:  Must possess a valid Driver’s License at the time of application with the ability to obtain an Illinois Driver’s License upon time of hire.
• Age Requirement:  Applicants must have attained their 21st birthday by the last date for filing applications (8/23/23) or are 20 years of age and have successfully completed 2 years of law enforcement study at an accredited college or university.  Applicants must be under the age of 35 years on 8/23/2023 unless exempt by State Statute 65 IL 5/10 – 2. 1-6 which provides, in part, that the age limitation does not apply to any person previously employed and certified as a full-time law enforcement officer for a municipality in the United States.
• Education:  Must have proof of High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement.
• Residence:  Must obtain residency a maximum of 30 miles from the territorial limits of the village within one (1) year after the two-year probationary period of employment is completed.
• Language: Must be able to comprehend the English language, both spoken and written.
• Character:  Must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character as described in State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6.
• Eyesight and Hearing:  Both shall be consistent with a level necessary to perform the duties of the position.
• POWER Card:  Will not be required for testing, but individual must possess one at the time of conditional offer of employment. **PLEASE NOTE:  Power Test dates fill quickly, and it is best to schedule your date as soon as possible.
