    The starting salary for a lateral hire applicant will be dependent upon experience.

    Employees are paid biweekly on Fridays, and the Labor Union is Metropolitan Alliance of Police #213.

Position Details

The City of Warrenville is accepting applications for the position of Police Officer Lateral Transfer.

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications:

Applicants for lateral appointment to the position of police officer must meet the following minimum requirements and qualifications:

  • Full-time sworn officer of a Police Department in any municipality, county, university, or State law enforcement agency, provided they are certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board and are actively employed with a respective law enforcement agency within the State of Illinois for at least two years.
  • Applicants must provide documentation to show their current duties are similar to those of a police officer in the City of Warrenville. This will be completed through a combination of a review of employee evaluations, current and past assignments, and training documentation. Also, documentation must be provided by the applicant showing they have successfully completed the minimum standards basic law enforcement training course pursuant to the Illinois Police Training Act.
  • The applicant must be a legal resident of the United States and legally authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Applicants must be at least 21 years old.
  • Education – applicant must be a high school graduate or equivalent, supplemented by continuing education in police science or a related field; working toward an associates degree in criminal justice; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the knowledge, abilities, and skills to perform the job functions.
  • Applicants must possess a Valid Illinois Driver's License, or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire.
  • The applicant must agree to comply with all requirements of the position and possess the ability to pass all pre-employment examinations and training requirements. 

DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION:

Selection Process:

  • Review of applications by Warrenville Police Department Command Staff.
  • Polygraph examination and interview with Warrenville Police Department personnel and Command Staff.
  • Background investigation to include criminal history, reference and credit check and past and current employer's check.
  • Interview with the Board of Fire and Police Commission.
  • If a conditional offer of employment is received, participation in a psychological examination is required.
  • Pre-employment medical examination, including a drug screen.
  • All lateral appointments are subject to a 12-month probationary period. 

Work Schedule and Information:

Currently, the Patrol Division works 12-hour shifts, which consists of two teams working 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and two teams working 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. The Investigations Division has three Detectives and a Detective Sergeant that work 8-hour shifts.

Warrenville's location at the Winfield Road interchange on I-88 connects to a network of County roads, which provide easy access to both homes and businesses. Warrenville's population of 13,553 allows the City to maintain that small-town feel and still have the advantage of drawing upon a diversified tax base to ease the financial burden off of residential property owners. Warrenville's citizens are filled with a community spirit that breaks forth whenever there's a holiday or special event to celebrate or when the community has a need for volunteers.

The Department:

The Department consists of 32 full-time police officers and seven civilian employees who fall under either the Administration and Investigations Divisions or Patrol Operations. The Department provides highly specialized services, which include forensic evidence processing, major accident reconstruction, the Bike Unit, Traffic Safety Enforcement Unit (TSEU), and the Problem Oriented Policing Unit (POP). Additionally, department members serve on multi-jurisdictional task forces including DuPage Metropolitan Emergency Response and Investigations Team (MERIT), and DuPage County Accident Reconstruction Taskforce (DuCART).
