Position Details

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Post-high school education or college degree is desirable.
2. Experience as a police officer, security supervisor, or three years of security experience preferred.
3. Ability to supervise personnel effectively.
4. Knowledge of the basic principles of physical security measures and techniques.
5. Demonstrates good listening skills and communicates effectively.
6. Able to demonstrate patience and gain students' cooperation.
7. Able to confront students when appropriate and hold them accountable for their actions.
8. Demonstrates proficient use of the English language in written and oral forms.
9. Use/operate technology and equipment related to the position/job.
10. Able to walk and stand for extended periods.
11. Resourceful, self-directed, and self-motivated.

SUPERVISES:

Campus Security and Campus Attendants at BHS

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for the physical security and security personnel at Barrington High School. Maintains an atmosphere conducive to learning, can confront students when their behavior is unacceptable, and develops a positive and cooperative relationship with students, staff, and visitors at BHS.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Manage and coordinate the day-to-day expectations for Campus Attendants to provide a safe and secure educational environment at Barrington High School.
2. Create a weekly security schedule and inform security personnel of any special programs, including assemblies, special programs in the auditorium/gymnasium/stadium/etc., and any other changes in the day's routine.
3. Assists in selecting, assessing, scheduling, and training all campus attendants.
4. Evaluates the performance of the campus attendants in conjunction with the Director of Safety & Security.
5. Recommends to the Director of Safety and Security the continued employment of probationary employees based on evaluation.
6. Monitors security at assigned areas and provides periodic checks.
7. Provide supervision and security after school, at extracurricular events, and on other occasions as requested by the Director of Safety & Security.
8. Provide a security plan for all after-school activities (Football games, Homecoming Dance, Prom, Graduation, etc.)
9. Monitor halls, washrooms, locker rooms, parking lots, surrounding campus, etc.
10. Supervise cafeteria and bus loading.
11. Supervise and monitor students in a structured study and/or in-school detention.
12. Building supervision before and after school, including crosswalk duty located off school grounds.
13. Work with other school personnel to provide a safe and orderly school environment.
14. Assist with surveillance and intervention in problem areas with the high school administration.
15. Develops positive relationships with many students, staff, and community members.
16. Coordinates lunch hour supervision.
17. Coordinates hall supervisors' assignments with the Associate Principal for Student Services (certified and classified).
18. Recruits staff for cafeteria supervision during student lunch periods. Provides direction and leadership to these staff members.
19. Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor. 

PHYSICAL CONTEXT OF THE JOB:

Able to walk and stand for extended periods. The individual must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

• Views conflict situations as an opportunity to teach conflict resolution. 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT (completed by the Office of Human Resources):

1. 8 hours per day (hours/day)
2. 260 days (year-round)
3. 12 months (months/year)
4. Exempt Salaried
