Position Details

The Lanark Police Department is seeking applicants for full time Police Chief.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties include but not limited to:

• Planning, organizing, directing and controlling the operations of the Lanark Police Department.
• Assist in the hiring of new full-time Police Officer(s).
• Patrolling and enforcing state statutes, local ordinances, and federal laws as necessary.
• Communicating with victims, offenders, citizens, county sheriff's office, state's attorney, and City officials, employees and councilmembers.
• Attending court proceedings on behalf of the City as necessary.
• Completing paperwork required, e.g., police reports, ordinance violations, state required reporting, etc.
• Provide assistance to surrounding city agencies and the Sheriff's Office in a mutual aid capacity and receiving aid from those agencies in return. 

Qualifications:

• Must possess, or have the ability to obtain, an Illinois Law Enforcement Standards Board certification.
• Previous experience in law enforcement.
• Have professional knowledge of state, federal and ordinance laws and crime prevention.
• Have practical knowledge of defensive tactics and firearms.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
• Live within a 30-mile radius of Lanark within 6 months.
• Retired certified Law Enforcement Officers are welcome to apply.
