After more than twenty-nine years of police work for the Village, 17 of those years serving at the helm of the Police Department, the current Chief of Police is set to retire in late 2023. Under his leadership, the South Chicago Heights Police Department has built strong community relationships, established a reputation for excellence, and developed outstanding employees. South Chicago Heights's next Chief of Police will be expected to build upon this legacy and lead the next generation of police officers into the ever-evolving future of law enforcement. They will lead by example, hold themselves and others accountable for their actions and performance, embrace empathy and compassion for all, and approach their job with community spirit.
South Chicago Heights Police Department is looking for a full time certified Police Chief who has served a minimum of 3 years in advanced supervision current law enforcement experience.
The Chief of Police is approved by the Police and Fire Commission and works under the administrative direction of the Village President. The Chief of Police plays an integral role in setting and achieving goals and objectives for the Department that are consistent with the Village's mission, vision, and value statement, and the strategic plan. As a key member of the Village's Leadership Team, the Chief of Police is looked upon to participate in overall leadership within the Village administration.
Residency within reasonable distance from the village.
Candidates must be able to work nights, weekends, holidays and be on call as needed.
