As a "working Chief' duties are included but are not limited to the following:
Follows standard operating procedures, looks for law/ordinance violations in the Village.
Ensures appropriate communications with victims, offenders, citizens, community groups, 911 center, states attorney, and other law enforcement officers.
Responds to and handles criminal and civil matters that are dispatched through the 911 center or the police station following appropriate policies and - procedures.
Responds to internal and external calls that do not necessarily require law enforcement response.
Completes police reports, traffic citations, notice to appears, and all other paperwork as required.
Responds to emergency calls while operating emergency lights and siren in a controlled manner.
Enforces all local traffic ordinances and traffic laws from the Illinois Vehicle Code.
Responds to emergency and non-emergency requests from other law enforcement agencies/officers.
Enforces all local, state, and federal laws and ordinances as necessary.
Provides police presence.
Performs criminal and non-criminal investigations against persons and property.
Refers citizens to appropriate social agencies.
Performs daily inspection of all assigned equipment and vehicles.
Responds to intrusion, hold-up, and fire alarms and performs building checks.
Provides supervision to part-time sworn officers and Auxiliary officers.
Attends court proceedings and represents the Shannon Police Department as required.
Attends state-certified training in order to remain current in law enforcement procedures.
Prepares and presents classes, meetings, or displays to the public as required.
Makes arrests as needed, following appropriate department procedures.
Ensures that evidence is safely transported and secured as required.
