Position Details

The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the Village of Park Forest is now accepting applications for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic.

Testing is being conducted for an Eligibility List and for anticipated openings in the very near future.

Overview:

The Park Forest Fire Department services the people of Park Forest, Illinois, a community of over 21,000 people in the south suburban Chicago area. The fire department is a full-service, combination organization consisting of career, paid-on-call, and volunteer personnel providing fire suppression, emergency medical, technical rescue, hazardous materials, surface water rescue, public education, fire prevention, fire/arson investigation, and disaster management services.  Emergency medical services are provided at the paramedic level by the department's two advanced life support (ALS) ambulances with a shared reserve back-up unit. The department has the career ranks of Chief/Paramedic, Deputy Chief/Paramedic, Shift Commander/Paramedic, Lieutenant/Paramedic, and Firefighter/Paramedic.

The men and women of the Park Forest Fire Department are professional, highly trained and skilled individuals dedicated to serving the citizens of Park Forest by protecting lives and property from the adverse effects of fire, medical emergencies and hazardous conditions.

Minimum Requirements:

• Citizenship:  Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Driver’s License:  Must possess a valid Driver’s License at the time of application and at time of hire.
• Age Requirements:  Applicants must be over 21 by the last date for filing applications (11/30/23). Applicants must be under the age of 35 at the day of testing (12/09/23) and at such time as final eligibility list is posted. Unless exempt from such age limitations as provided in State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6 which provides, in part, that the age limitation does not apply to any person previously employed as a full-time firefighter in a regularly constituted fire department of any municipality or fire protection district located in Illinois.
• Education:  Must have a High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement.
• Certifications: Must be certified as an EMT-P at time of hire.
• Character:  Must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character as described in State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6.
• Residence: There is no residency requirement for members of the Park Forest Fire Department.
• Testing:  Must be able to successfully complete all phases of testing.
• CPAT Card:  Applicants must have a valid CPAT Card with Ladder Climb from a certified testing agency, issued within 1-year preceding employment date.
