  This position is FLSA non-exempt.

  This is a full-time, forty-hour per week position with an excellent benefit package, including:

  Work hours during training are 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with a transition to 11:00 AM - 7:30 PM upon successful completion of initial training.

Position Details

Community & Position Summary:

The Village of Lisle is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Community Service Officer within the Police Department. Providing high-quality, professional police department services that promote a safe and secure community is a top priority.

Under the general direction of the Community Service Officer Supervisor, the successful candidate will be able to communicate effectively, make responsible decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures, and demonstrate the highest levels of integrity in the conduct of their work.

Principal Responsibilities:

• Perform non-criminal assignments such as motorist assists, minor traffic crashes, vehicle lock-outs, and traffic control at accident scenes.
• Perform animal control duties, including searches, captures, and transports of stray domestic animal(s) to known owners or impound animal(s).
• Investigates cruelty to animals and animal bite complaints.
• Informs owner of precautionary impounding procedures.
• Issues code violation citations and enforce rabies vaccination compliance as necessary.
• Enforce parking regulations and village ordinances. This includes conducting property inspections and issuing violation notices if appropriate.
• Assist during special events with crowd control, traffic direction, and parking control as needed.
• Become certified in child safety seat installation.
• Provide administrative support as needed.
• Awareness of, and appreciation for, cultural diversity in the work environment and in the larger community.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and make constructive recommendations to improve overall departmental efficiency.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; the ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions are essential.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Six months' experience in tasks involving public contact, customer service, or related work or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Excellent public service skills.
• Bilingual skills are a plus.
• Must have a valid Illinois driver's license.

Physical Demands:

• Tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling moderately heavy objects and materials up to 50 pounds; and may occasionally involve objects and materials up to 100 pounds with assistance.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying environmental conditions.
• Ability to perform a variety of physical and mental skills, including but not limited to standing or sitting for extended periods of time, reading, writing, making sound decisions, using good judgment, and demonstrating intellectual and communication capabilities.
