Position Details

The City of Marseilles is a small community located in northern LaSalle County.  Marseilles is located on Route 6 and is three miles south of Interstate Route 80.  The community has many tourist attractions.  We are located along the Illinois Michigan canal corridor.  Located within our jurisdiction is the Marseilles Illinois National Guard Training area.  The corporate city limits stretch for over 6.2 miles.  The population we serve is just under 5,000.  The strength of the city is tourism and industry.  The City of Marseilles continues to strive to attract new industry and businesses.  Housing in the community is priced moderately.

This setting creates a considerable challenge for law enforcement, while maintaining order and delivering police services.  Accordingly, the City of Marseilles is committed to recruiting and retaining physically fit quality police officers.

The City has adopted the Community Policing approach, which emphasizes service delivery based on community involvement and problem solving.  The City of Marseilles is committed to a multi-disciplinary approach to community involvement and problem solving.  Officers are expected to take a creative broadly focused approach to policing; not just answering calls for service.

The department consists of ten full time officers. Qualifications:

• U. S. Citizen
• Minimum 21 years old
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Valid Driver's License
• Ability to Pass Background Investigation and Physical Exams
• MUST BE STATE CERTIFIED ILLINOIS POLICE OFFICER
