Position Details

Postal Inspectors are federal law enforcement officers who carry firearms, make arrests, execute federal search warrants, and serve subpoenas. Over 1,200 Inspectors enforce roughly 200 federal laws covering crimes with a nexus to the U.S. Mail and the postal system. These crimes include mail theft, mail fraud, financial fraud, identity theft, robberies and burglaries of postal facilities, assaults and threats on postal employees, investigations of dangerous and prohibited mails, narcotics, cybercrime and much more.

Applicants must meet all the following conditions to be considered:

1. Must be a U.S. Citizen.
2. At least 21 at the time of application and less than 37 years of age at the time of original law enforcement appointment (age exception may be granted for preference eligible veterans).
3. Possess a current valid state driver's license with at least two years of unsupervised driving experience and a safe driving record.
4. Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must meet Selective Service registration requirements.
5. Possess a conferred, four-year degree from an accredited academic institution (college or university).
6. Have no felony or domestic violence convictions.
7. Be in good physical condition and meet minimum physical fitness standards.
8. Write and speak English clearly.
9. Must be willing to relocate.*
