Minimum qualifications include:

• Minimum age of 21 at date of hire.
• Be under age 35 unless otherwise exempt by statute.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to pass each phase of the Firefighter examination process.
• Must have a current CPAT card by January 4, 2024.
• Must become a licensed Illinois paramedic within three years of hire.

Step 1:  Application - deadline 12/27/2023

• Submit Application
• College transcripts, DD214 and applicable licenses are required for preference points
• Upload copy of CPAT card, if you have one

Step 2:  Written Exam - deadline 12/27/2023

• Sign up for FREE written Exam (in-person and virtual options)
• Must receive 70 on each portion of the exam to pass

Step 3:  CPAT - deadline 01/04/2023

• Register for your test (11/28, 12/12, 12/16, 01/04)
• City of Bloomington will cover the cost of CPAT card. Transportation available, if needed

Step 4:  Interviews & Orientation - 12/11/2023 - 01/03/2023

• You will be invited to sign up for an interview by email through your governmentjobs.com account
• Tour of the fire station will be optional immediately after your scheduled interview

Step 5:  Final Eligibility List - 01/04/2023

• Written exam scores, interview scores and preferences points will determine rank order

Step 6:  Backgrounds - 01/08/2023 - 03/01/2023

• You will be scheduled for an integrity interview with a background investigator
• Birth certificate and high school diploma will be required here

Step 7:  Conditional Job Offer - Early March

Step 7a:  Physical and Drug Screen - Early March

Step 7b:  Psychological Exam - Early March

Final Eligibility List and Appointment:

Preference points will be awarded for Veterans, Paramedic Licenses or Education.  Preference points will be added to the Final Eligibility List which will be posted.

Openings on the fire department are filled in the order on the list. Those offered a position on the fire department must satisfactorily pass a background investigation, medical and psychological examination.
