The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the City of North Chicago is now accepting applications for the position of: Entry Level Police Officer

The North Chicago Police Department works in partnership with the community to promote open communication, education, cooperation, enforcement, and fair and equal treatment to improve the safety and security of the community.

Testing is being conducted for immediate new hires and to establish an eligibility list for anticipated future hiring needs.

Testing:

The City of North Chicago offers full testing services for this position through National Testing Network (NTN).

To register with NTN and schedule a test, go to:

Select 'Find Jobs', then select Law Enforcement Jobs and sign up for the City of North Chicago.

When you visit the www.nationaltestingnetwork.com website:

• Complete the NTN registration process and schedule your test.
• Review all information related to the North Chicago Police Officer, including minimum requirements, salary, and benefits.
• Review detailed information about the testing process.
• Review the Frequently Asked Questions and take an online practice test (if desired).

Upon completion of your scheduled exam, scores are automatically forwarded to the City. Candidates who submit a complete employment application and attain a passing score on the entry level exam will be placed on North Chicago's eligibility list.  The City of North Chicago will contact candidates on the list and will invite them to participate in further stages of the selection process.

You must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Citizenship:  Must be a U.S. Citizen or legal resident of the U.S. 
• Driver’s License:  Must possess a valid Driver’s License at the time of application with the ability to obtain an Illinois Driver’s License upon time of hire.
• Age Requirement:  Applicant must have attained their 21st birthday by the last date for filing applications (10/26/22).  Applicants must be under the age of 35 years old at the last date of filing applications (10/26/22) and at such time as the final eligibility list is posted, unless exempt by State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6., which provides in part that the age limitation does not apply to any person previously employed as a Certified (full-time) Law Enforcement Officer for a municipality in the United States.
• Education:  Must have proof of High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement.
• Testing:  Must be able to successfully complete all phases of testing.
• Residency: 35 air miles from the city of North Chicago, WISCONSIN applicants are allowed

NOTE: P.O.W.E.R. Card is not required at the time of application, however, candidates must possess a valid P.O.W.E.R. Card issued within a year prior to the date of hire.
