Position Details

The La Grange Fire Department is seeking a diverse pool of applicants for the position of Firefighter Paramedic.

Firefighter Minimum Requirements:

• Be a United States Citizen
• No felony convictions
• Possess a valid driver's license
• Possess a high school diploma or its equivalent
• Current EMT-B certification at time of application (Note: At the time of hire the applicant must possess a certified EMT-P Paramedic License from the State of Illinois)
• Be at least 21 and under 35 years of age at the time of application, or as otherwise provided by the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners Act (65 ILCS 5/10-2.1)
• Submit proof of a valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) and Approved Ladder Climb card from a licensed Agency
• Card must be dated within one year of the application deadline (valid if issued 1/16/2023 – 1/16/2024). Must also possess a valid and current CPAT/Ladder Climb card at time of appointment. 

Testing Information:

The written examination will be given in a virtual format, and you will take the exam in your own home. The virtual exam will be scheduled during business hours the week of February 19th. Additional details and instructions will be provided to eligible candidates.

About La Grange Fire Department:

La Grange FD operates out of a single fire station, providing fire and emergency medical (paramedic) services for all of the Village 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We also provide and receive mutual aid services for several of our surrounding communities. The mission of the La Grange Fire Department is the preservation of life and property of citizens and visitors of the Village of La Grange from fire and medical emergencies by maintaining the readiness of personnel, the fire station, and equipment to promptly respond to a citizen's request for emergency, rescue, or both accidental and natural disasters. This shall be accomplished through fire suppression, advanced life support emergency medical services, fire prevention, code enforcement, training, and public education.
